Million Dollar Challenge

If you saw someone about to fall off the edge of a cliff, you wouldn’t sit down to send them an e-mail about their precarious situation would you? Of course not. You would immediately shout to them, run to them, reach to them, and so on. You see, urgency not only compels us to take action but also prescribes what action is to be taken.

A pastor once told me that he simply couldn’t get new people to visit his church. I was convinced that his problem was a lack of urgency, so I asked him this question, “What if I told you I would give you a million dollars for every new person you could get to come to church next Sunday? Do you think you could figure out a way to do it?” He looked down and smiled. “Yes, for a million dollars I’m sure I could find a way,” he said. Well my friend, If something can be done for a million dollars, then it can be done—period!

Often, the sad truth is that we simply aren’t motivated enough to do what needs to be done to get results. It’s much easier to make excuses and wait for some lucky break to come. But my friend, the precious, fleeting moments of your life are far more valuable than a million dollars. Remind yourself that the eyes of God are upon you. Get a sense of urgency about what you have been called to do and begin to do it as “unto the Lord.”
